A great rear guard action by a very defiant Tenby United XV

Dunvant (24) 48 TURFC (10) 10

A very depleted FBM sponsored Tenby United side travelled to Dunvant with many regular players missing due to them being correctly selected for the Youth side who were playing at nearby Gowerton against Pentyrch in the semi final of the WRU Youth Bowl…. as well as losing several players up in Edinburgh on a stag weekend added to by the usual 4/5 players injured. So against a well established First Division side it was always going to be a tough ask against a Dunvant side that ended the day in 3rd position in the league with 4 less games played, than top team Felinfoel.

Going behind early on to a well worked try by flanker Ben Davies Tenby fought gallantly for the first half going in at the break 24-10 down with centre Sam Crowley once and outside half Adam Williams-Parry crossing the whitewash for two tries. For Tenby, outside half Lloyd Thomas got a trio of scores with an early penalty and converting his try in the 20th minute after dummying through from the 22 and side stepped the full-back to go under the posts for a lovely individual try.

With four tries and the first half Dunvant repeated the scoring feat in the second half with fullback Sam Hawkes going over twice, wing Matt Richards and lively scrum half Glen Williams completing the scoring. Adam Williams-Parry also contributed to the scoring by slotting four conversions.

Against a defiant and determined Tenby side that had played their hearts out for the full 80 minutes, after the match Dunvant were full of praise for Tenby simply for fulfilling the match.

Comments from the coaching staff included the following – nothing but praise for the attitude and commitment. It’s a tough ask for a pack to play away on a big pitch, let alone 80 min against a well drilled eight. Jason Ronowitz was outstanding as captain and led from the front and along with debutant Gwilym Owens must have put in 50+ tackles.

Stand-out players – forwards Gwilym Owens, Jason Ronowitz, Jack Broadhurst along with centres, Moritz Neumann, Billy Truman (the later being awarded man of match)

With a home game tomorrow (Saturday) against Gorseinon – a side that sit three positions above Tenby in the league – and the bulk of the regulars available selection, will give the coaching group a challenging task.
