Swifts Match Reports – Sunday 28th April 2019

Under 10’s

Tenby Swifts Under 10’s welcomed Aberdare to the Clickets on Sunday. The Under 10s have just qualified for the Finals Day, so were keen to keep up their strong form. Captain Jack Henson won the coin toss and Tenby started with the ball. Tenby threw every attacking option at the visitors, but their defence was just too strong and it wasn’t long till Tenby found themselves defending a very fast and aggressive Aberdare. Some strong rucking, Tenby turned the ball over and some excellent running, Tenby got the first try. Aberdare were not far behind scoring their first. The game went back and forth with both teams going ahead at one point. Tenby had the chance to go ahead, but some brave defending from Aberdare on their own try line, managed to get under the ball and prevent Tenby from grounding the ball. Finally Tenby scored to take the game to 5-4 as the final whistle blew. The game was a battle between two very skillful and aggressive teams, and the score could have gone both ways.

Man of the match went to Bennett, his powerful runs in the centre of the park gave Aberdare’s defence a headache all game.

Try scorers – George (2), Ollie T, William D and Rhys B.

Thank you Aberdare for making the journey down and for giving Tenby Swifts a great game.

Under 11’s
Last Sunday Tenby Under 11s rounded off their season with a game against touring team Aberdare. Tenby started strong and quickly pinned Aberdare back into their own half. The forwards worked hard to secure the ball and backs tried to move the ball quickly along the back line. But Aberdares defence stayed strong and when they were presented an opportunity they broke through Tenbys defence and crashed over to score the first try of the morning. Aberdare continued to attack but a kick up field by Rhys took the pressure off the seasiders. A strong run by Connor gained the territory needed and it was to be supported by Liam whose strength would carry him over the line to level the score 5-5. Aberdare responded with a another wave of attack and some lovely running lines would see them cross for their second and quickly followed by a third to increase their lead to 5-15. Tenby kept pushing forward. A strong by Lewis set Tenby up near the Aberdare line. The seasiders backs continued to apply the pressure  and eventually were rewarded with a try for Alfie. Aberdare were to hit back straight away with a try of their own and kept them with a 10 point lead. Tenby in the remaining minutes of the half seemed determined to claw back some points and this determination turned into a try for Connor and had the half time score sit at 15-20 to Aberdare. Quickly into the second half Connor started as he had finished the first half with a try in the corner and levelled the score 20-20. Momentum for the first time in the game was  with Tenby and they were to build on the possession presented to them. Camped on their own line Aberdare looked to kick to relieve the pressure but a charge down by Rhys presented an opportunity for Owen to dive over the ball to score and put Tenby in the lead for the first time 25-20. The lead didn’t last long with Aberdare responding quickly with a try of their own and the score once again was level at 25-25. Mounting pressure from Aberdare followed which saw Tenby’s defence have to battle hard. Some big tackles were called for and the seasiders held strong for a long period. A lovely clearance kick up field by Rhys took the pressure off and found the hands of Connor Which took play up to Aberdare’s line and the away team now found themselves having to defend. A forced error saw Aberdare drop the ball an Alfie responded by picking up and crossing the line for his second and put Tenby infront once again. Aberdare once again responded with their own score quickly and with 5 minutes left the score sat at 30-30. Aberdare we’re to follow this with two more unanswered tries and had the full time score end at 30-40 to the away team. Tenby Under 11s would like to thank everyone for their support home and away this season and look forward to seeing you all in September for Under 12s.
