Tenby Under 7s attended their Pembrokeshire District Festival on Sunday, hosted by Pembroke Dock RFC. The teams were split into two pools, Tenby being grouped together with Haverfordwest, Neyland, Fishguard, Pembroke Dock and Milford Haven. It was a well organised morning with not too much waiting around for the children. First up Tenby faced Haverfordwest, starting well with some fantastic team tries and winning by 5 tries to 3. Neyland were the next team up, presenting more of a challenge for Tenby. However, an excellent stand out try from Leo was a great example of how determined Tenby are. Neyland narrowly came out winners, scoring 4 tries to 3. Tenby were back to winning ways against Fishguard, scoring the only 5 tries of the game, Rupert again running practically the whole length of the pitch.
Home side Pembroke Dock were next up, showing some excellent defensive skills and non-stop tagging. Tenby however did not give them the full run of the game, losing narrowly by 4 tries to 2. Finally, Tenby faced Milford Haven and were keen to end the festival on a high, winning by 3 tries to 2. Unfortunately Tenby’s three wins weren’t enough to see them through to Finals Day, but they showed everyone what a great team that they have developed into in their first season of rugby…excellent effort by players and coaches Cone and Nick!!
Team – Caitlyn Lewis, Jevan Guymer, Bradley Rossiter, Rhys Broadhurst, Bobby Field-Thomas, Craig Roberts, Dylan Drewett, Bobby Waters, Leo Werner, Jude Christen, Ethan Brace, Rupert James.
Tries – Ethan (5), Jude (4), Leo (3), Jevan (2), Bobby FT (2), Bobby W, Rupert.
Last Sunday tenby under 10s travelled to compete in the Tumble rfc juniors rugby festival! Looking forward to next week’s pembrokeshire festival tenby were looking to gain some momentum! First up was Llandybie! Tenby started strongly! Big ball carrying seen them go over in the first few minutes! Ethan Lewis evading a few tackles and touching down! Bennett was up next! Strong all day with the ball in hands, Ollie Tucks supporting and going over the line making it 2-0 tenby! Llanbidie pulled 1 back straight from the restart! Tenby then went further ahead thro Logan! Looking sharp in the first game, putting the ball thro the hands! Logan got his second of the game after some good aggressive work by Bennett and great at the breakdown from Madoc Evans and fantastic tackling from George Mc and Ethan Lewis! Ollie Tucks also grabbed his second of the game after a great pass out wide from Logan Hall! Llandybie pulled 1 back at the last play of the game but it was a good start by tenby!
Next up was Pontyberem! This was going to be a bigger test for this tenby team after conceding a try in the first minute! Just as in the first game it was Ethan Lewis who got the first for tenby! Both teams looking good going forward it was a case of you score and we score! Evan cristen breaking the line twice to get his brace at the halfway point it was 4-3 to Pontyberem! Tenby who travelled down with good numbers rang the changes to get some fresh legs on the park! And it worked Logan pulled it back to 4-4! But it wasn’t to be as pontyberem scored with the last play of game to win it 5-4!
Nantgaredig was the third game! Tenby learning from there mistakes in the last game tightened things up at the break down and ran out 5-2 winners! Trys from Rhys Barnes, Ollie tucks, Logan Hall, Ethan Wright and Iestyn Barrellie capped off a fine win!
The hosts tumble were up next! This was a tight one! Neither team willing to take a backward step! Ethan Lewis getting into the habit of scoring first was at it again followed with another for Ollie Tucks and Evan Christen also crossing! But tumble were never out of it and after a tight game it ended up 3-3!
Newcastle emlyn was the penultimate game of the day! Two teams with a solid defence! tackling was great from both teams! Never going to be a try fest it was a Logan try that got tenby the win! The sixth and final game for tenby was Carmarthen Athletic! A tough one for tenby going down 6-2! Great tackling from Iestyn Barrellie, Thomas Prince, Rhys Barnes and Tyler James. A well deserved try from Jack Henson! His first of the season and worth the wait, a solo run! Rhys Barnes also getting his name on the scoresheet with his quick feet. A tough loss for tenby but a very good showing in a competitive festival! Thanks to Tumble Juniors RFC for a well organised fun festival and to all the parents/supporters who travelled
