Tenby Swifts Under 10’s travelled to Pembroke RFC for the Pembrokeshire Finals Day. Tenby were facing a strong Haverfordwest team and if the past encounters were anything to go by, this was to be a cracker!
Led by Captain Evan Christen, Tenby ran onto the pitch. Haverfordwest won the toss and kicked off the final. Haverfordwest soon realised that running at Tenby was like running into a brick wall; Tenby didn’t miss one tackle and soon were turning the ball over. A few silly mistakes saw the ball back in the hands of Haverfordwest, but when they went on the offence, Ethan Lewis put in a huge hit and drove the ball carrier back 10 yards, the ball came loose and Ethan quickly popped the ball to Madoc for the first try of the game. Haverfordwest soon hit back with an excellent interception try. Tenby knew that they couldn’t give Haverfordwest’s back line any space. Tyler, Logan and Rhys B dominated in defence and the quick thinking of Ollie Tucks and Madoc turned the ball over for the Young Seasiders. A great carry from Bennett and Will Day gave space for Evan C to fly through the defence and score the second try. Haverfordwest were trying to get back into the game, but returning Will Hilling put in tackle after tackle to slow them down. George Mc came close a couple of times but just couldn’t get through the gain line despite using all his strength and sheer determination. Half time 2-1 to Tenby.
A few changes to the line up going into the second half, but with these changes the intensity didn’t change. Thomas P was trucking through the Haverfordwest defence leaving a trail of blue in his wake; Lucas was in every breakdown while Will Diment, Max and Jayden ran at the defence line looking for gaps and were not afraid to get stuck into Haverfordwest. Iestyn B cleared a ruck and with the ball loose, Iestyn flicked the ball to Carter who found Ollie running at pace to power over the line for Tenby’s third try. Tenby’s strength in the rucks proved once again the game changer as quick turnovers and the speed of scrum half Jack kept Haverfordwest on the back foot. Carter H finished off Tenby’s excellent display by scoring the last try making the final score 4-1 to Tenby.
